Upcoming movies: January 2009

Published by shemah under Movies Edit This

Among upcoming movies being released in January 2009 at the Golden Screen Cinemas here in Malaysia are:

  • Four Christmases
  • Juno (eh?? wasn’t this out like ages ago??)
  • They Wait
  • Inkheart
  • The Soloist
  • Bride Wars
  • Changeling
  • Underworld: Rise of the Lycans
  • [REC] (Spanish)

A fair amount of Chinese movies will also be airing in January, namely:

  • All About Women
  • Tactical Unit
  • The Wedding Game
  • Red Cliff (Part 2)
  • All’s Well, Ends Well 2009

Two Malay movies will be out as well, which are:

  • Maut
  • Sifu dan Tongga

I have highlighted in bold the movies that I am looking forward to watch in January 2009. Somehow, I have to cut back on going out for movies, though. Have to watch out for the finances, don’t we? Part of my New Year’s resolution will be to cut down on unnecessary spending and watching every possible movie premiered in that month does amount to unnecessary spending. So should I just wait for the DVDs to come out?

Maybe I’ll reduce my guilty pleasure from 4 movies a month to 3 movies a month. How does that sound? Okay, fine.. I’ll bring it down to 2!!

Anyways, I would like to take this chance to wish all Just Press Play readers a Happy New Year!! I wish everyone the best in their goals and resolutions and may 2009 treat you guys better than this past year. Wish you all the best of health, wealth, positivity, joy and happiness you can possibly handle!

SPOT: Down To Earth

Published by shemah under Movie Soundtracks Edit This

For today’s Soundtrack Pick of Today (SPOT), I let my son do the honor of choosing his favorite song from his favorite movie. It didn’t take him long to choose it because he listens to it everyday, if he could.

So today’s SPOT  goes to Down To Earth by Peter Gabriel from the animated movie, Wall-E. Personally, I love this song as well. Sometimes I even get my son to replay the credits on the DVD just to listen to the song again. LOL!

So, here’s the video and lyrics for all Just Press Play readers to enjoy! :)

Did you think that your feet had been bound
By what gravity brings to the ground?
Did you feel you were tricked
By the future you picked?
Well, come on down

All those rules don’t apply
When you’re high in the sky
So, come on down
Come on down

We’re coming down to the ground
There’s no better place to go
We’ve got snow up on the mountains
We’ve got rivers down below

We’re coming down to the ground
We hear the birds sing in the trees
And the land will be looked after
We send the seeds out in the breeze

Did you think you’d escaped from routine
By changing the script and the scene?
Despite all you made of it
You’re always afraid
Of the change

You’ve got a lot on your chest
Well, you can come as my guest
So come on down
Come on down

We’re coming down to the ground
There’s no better place to go
We’ve got snow up on the mountains
We’ve got rivers down below

We’re coming down to the ground
We hear the birds sing in the trees
And the land will be looked after
We send the seeds out in the breeze

Like the fish in the ocean
We felt at home in the sea
We learned to live off the good land
Learned to climb up a tree
Then we got up on two legs
But we wanted to fly
When we messed up our homeland
We set sail for the sky

We’re coming down to the ground
There’s no better place to go
We’ve got snow up on the mountains
We’ve got rivers down below

We’re coming down to the ground
We hear the birds sing in the trees
And the land will be looked after
We send the seeds out in the breeze

We’re coming down
Coming down to Earth
Like babies at birth
Coming down to Earth
We’re gonna find new priorities
These are extraordinary qualities

We’re coming down to the ground
There’s no better place to go
We’ve got snow up on the mountains
We’ve got rivers down below

We’re coming down to the ground
We hear the birds sing in the trees
And the land will be looked after
We send the seeds out in the breeze

We’re coming down to the ground
There’s no better place to go
We’ve got snow up on the mountains
We’ve got rivers down below

We’re coming down to the ground
We hear the birds sing in the trees
And the land will be looked after
We send the seeds out in the breeze

We’re gonna find new priorities
These are extraordinary qualities

Oh and FYI, Peter Gabriel received one Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Score - Motion Picture for this song. Awesome!!

Seven Pounds Movie Review

Published by shemah under Movie Reviews Edit This

I got to watch Seven Pounds (starring Will Smith and Rosario Dawson) last night.

 story.jpg

Plot: An IRS agent with a fateful secret embarks on an extraordinary journey of redemption by forever changing the lives of seven strangers.

The first 20 minutes, the story is full of mystery, while viewers furrow their brows trying to figure out what the point of the whole movie is.

Then for the next hour, I felt like the movie gave me seven pounds of boring.. I don’t know, it’s a good movie but I really wanted to see how Woody Harrelson fit into the whole story. After all, he was in one of the first scenes of the movie and we don’t get to see him again.. not until the end.

But then the movie picked up again with the whole story unraveling and the story ended with.. well, it ended predictably.

Don’t get me wrong.. Storyline is great. The acting was great - but of course. It’s Will Smith. Rosario Dawson gets a thumbs up as well.  It just feels like we’ve got to wait too long to get to the good part, is all.

Oh, those who want to catch a glimpse of Connor Cruise, son of Tom Cruise, well, he makes a cameo as the young Will Smith in one of the scenes.

I do recommend people to watch it, though and if you do, go and get some Kleenex ready too. :)

3.5/5 stars.
