Wall-E wins Best Picture by Web-based Critics

The Online Film Critics Society, which consists of Internet-based film critics, has named “WALL-E” best picture of the year.

The film also picked up an award for Andrew Stanton and Jim Reardon’s original screenplay and was hailed as best animated film.

Two other films, though, scored more trophies.

“The Dark Night” picked up four awards — for Christopher Nolan’s direction, Heath Ledger’s supporting performance, Wally Pfister’s cinematography and the original score by James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer.

The Swedish vampire movie “Let the Right One In” also earned four mentions: It was named best foreign-language film, John Ajvide took the prize for adapted screenplay, and it earned newcomers’ awards for actress Lina Leandersson and filmmaker Tomas Alfredson.

Other awards went to:

Actor: Mickey Rourke, “The Wrestler

Actress: Michelle Williams, “Wendy and Lucy

Supporting actress: Marisa Tomei, “The Wrestler”

Documentary: “Man on Wire

Editing: Chris Dickens, “Slumdog Millionaire.”
