Marley and Me (2008)

marleyandme.jpg

Director: David Frankel
Rating: Rated PG for thematic material, some suggestive content and language.
Genre: Drama/Comedy
Main Cast: Owen Wilson as John Grogan, Jennifer Anniston as Jen Grogan, Eric Dane as Sebastian, 22 yellow labradors as Marley. :)

Based on the memoir of the same name, written by Josh Grogan, this book tells the story about a man and his dog. But it’s not just any other dog. This dog is “The World’s Worst Dog” according to John.

The movie begins with a newlywed couple, happy in love, starting their new life as a couple. A couple years later, both at the height of their career, John senses that Jen is contemplating motherhood. So his best friend, Sebastian suggests they get a dog for the time being.

Choosing Marley was easy but he was definitely what John and Jen call him, “The World’s Worst Dog”. Marley was unbelievably unruly, untrained, and in their words, “incorrigible”. He chewed anything he could find, ruined the walls and floors, afraid of thunder and ate like there was no tomorrow. As soon as they begin to start a family, they feel overwhelmed with it all.. including Marley.

This movie, despite a lot of bad reviews I’ve read, is a very realistic film that doesn’t need so much comedy (that’s what people complain most - not enough comedy). I feel the movie shows us the realistic side of how it is, settling down, starting a family and feel like the dream life you pictured is far from reach. Despite that, it shows you how John, Jen and Marley learn about love, growth, maturing and developing as a family.

I think it was a good movie and for those of you who would like a heart-warming family movie (no nudity or explicit language), you should give this movie a go. 7/10.

Rin On The Rox

rin-on-the-rox.jpg

I’m sure most of you are very familiar with Rin On The Rox - the famous duo who shot to fame from doing cover songs in YouTube clips - in their bathroom. These best friends, Erin “Rin” Perey (left) and Roxanne “Rox” Ilano (right) are best friends who share a passion of music.

rinrox.jpg

Rin, 20, and Rox, 21, both of Filipino descent (Rox is Filipino/German) got to know each other in 2004 and discovered they share a passion of music, which I believe, most Filipinos are born with. I think the learn to sing the moment they’re born. Instead of making the first cry.. I think they make their first melodious pitch or something. It’s in their genes. They have been best friends ever since.

Anyways, this duo shot to fame from their online fan base on YouTube and caught the eye of Ellen Degeneres. For those of you guys who love watching Ellen, you’d know how much she likes to showcase talents off of YouTube. So they caught Ellen’s attention, and now they are moving on to bigger and better things.

Since appearing in The Ellen Degeneres Show (singing in Ellen’s bathroom), Ellen has also given them a chance to go to the 2009 51st Grammy Awards, the 2009 81st Academy Awards as well as Sir Elton John’s 2009 Oscar Afterparty.

Both living now in California, they are coming out with a single “Torture” by A. Anderson, D. Deviller, S. Hosein, L. McMaster and S. Smith. It is produced by Sean Hosein & Dane Deviller for Bananatoons and Steve Smith & Anthony Anderson for SA TrackWorks. It will be released in Spring of 2009. A music video is also already on the works for their single.

For a while there, their YouTube account was suspended due to copyright infringement or something or other. Their fans have been signing a petition to get them back on YouTube and I don’t know whether that’s what worked.. but they’re back!

For those who don’t know them yet, check them out! Here’s Rin On The Rox singing Beyonce’s Halo!

For more by the duo, go on over to Rin On The Rox YouTube account. I wish all the best to Rin On The Rox!

Congratulations!!
