More news comes in regarding the Twilight Saga: New Moon castings. Aro, the Italian leader of the Volturi vampire clan has been given to actor, Michael Sheen whom some of you might recognize from the recent Academy Award nominated film Frost/Nixon as David Frost and Underworld: The Rise of Lycans as Lucian.

According to the Daily Mail, the 40-year old actor (who was previously married to actress Kate Beckinsale) has agreed to take on the role of the lead Volturi vampire, Aro, for the Twilight sequel, New Moon after New Moon director, Chris Weitz pursued him “aggresively” for this role.

‘Michael’s role is so important because he’s the head of all vampires,’ he said. ‘Aro is, on the surface, a very gracious and friendly vampire, but beneath that he is a tremendous threat.’

It is reported that this role will earn Mr. Sheen some 5 million pounds! However, no word has been released by Summit Entertainment,  so it is not yet 100% confirmed. I think they’ll be releasing a statement any time now, though.

Before Michael Sheen was cast, a couple of weeks ago, another addition to the New Moon cast was Jaime Campbell Bower who starred as Anthony Hope in Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd: The Barber Demon of Fleet Street. In New Moon, he will be playing the role of Caius. Caius is described as having very pale skin that is almost translucent; hair that is shoulder-length and as white as his skin; and when he moves, he appears to be floating rather than walking (as do all the Volturi leaders.) In addition, Caius wears a long, hooded, black cloak - identical to the ones worn by Aro and Marcus, the remaining leaders.

As for other casting rumors on New Moon, IMDB has added Justine Wachsberger to the cast list, for the role of Gianna - a role of the human “secretary” who works for the Volturi hoping one day to be turned into a vampire herself. Definitely no word on that yet, so let’s see how it goes.

Until then, there’s still some anticipation as to who will play Alec, Jane of Volturi’s twin? Any ideas?
