Sneak Peek: Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland (2010)
Tim Burton has brought a new twist to Disney’s 1951 animated movie, Alice in Wonderland! Playing the role of Alice is 19-year old Australian, actress Mia Wasikowska (In Treatment, Defiance).
Johnny Depp plays the character of The Mad Hatter, Tim Burton’s wife Helena Bonham Carter is the Red Queen, Anne Hathaway will be playing the White Queen and Matt Lucas as Tweedledee/Tweedledum.
Other big names include Michael Sheen (Underworld: Evolution, Twilight Saga: The New Moon) as White Rabbit, Alan Rickman (Love Actually, Sweeney Todd: The Demon of Barber Street, Harry Potter) as the Caterpillar, Crispin Glover (Willard, Epic Movie, Beowulf) as The Knave of Hearts, Stephen Fry (V for Vendetta, Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire) as the Cheshire Cat and Christopher Lee (Lord of The Rings, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, The Golden Compass) as the Jabberwock.
In this story twist, “Alice, 17, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn’t remember..”
On Mia Wasikowska playing Alice, Burton said, “She just had that certain kind of emotional toughness, standing her ground in a way that makes her kind of an older person with a younger person’s mentality.”
Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland is set to hit theatres on March 5th 2010 and will be able to be viewed in 3D as well as the normal 2D version.
